Los Altos: Authorities identify man killed in backyard shooting

LOS ALTOS – A man shot to death in the backyard of a Los Altos home Monday has been identified as Roberto Riviera, 48, of Union City, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

The death marked the first recorded homicide in the city since 1994, according to Los Altos police.

Officers were called to a home on the 1000 block of Highlands Circle just before 11 a.m. Monday for a report of a shooting. They arrived to find Riviera suffering from at least one gunshot wound in the backyard. He was pronounced dead about 11:15 a.m.

Police said Riviera was not a resident of the home.

No suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting, according to police.
