Coronation Street’s Shona won’t remember David when she returns – but boss promises couple WILL have a happy ending
CORONATION Street’s boss says Shona won’t remember her husband David Platt when she makes her shocking return, but has promised fans they will have a happy ending.
Things took a dark turn when Shona fell victim to a shooting on Christmas Day and suffered brain damage and memory loss as a result.
After waking up from her coma, the Roy’s Rolls waitress didn’t remember David and asked for a divorce, which he didn’t take very well and at one point even tried to sleep with Seb’s ex and telesales agent Alina Pop.
But Corrie’s showrunner Iain MacLeod warns that while it will be a “bumpy road”, all hope is not lost and there is light at the end of the tunnel for the duo.
He said: “It’s not love at first sight when she sees him – for his part, David’s challenge is to make her fall back in love with him. But she’s also a different proposition too so he also has to fall back in love with her. Nobody has a long term desire to split them up so they will have a happy ending.”
MacLeod, who has produced the soap since 2018, described the plot as a “a very unique and emotionally complicated story” and added: “At the bottom of it all is a love story really, they’re like cheese and crackers – none are good without the other.”
The storyline has been an ideal way to explore the complexity of the father-of-two’s mindset during this difficult time, as MacLeod described the hairdresser hitting the self-destruct button as “very David.”
Asked if there was a possibility of a second wedding for David and Shona, Iain responded: “It’s certainly been discussed – that’s the most poignant thing about it.
“To Shona the wedding pictures she has been shown are just two strangers dancing in the bistro.”
He continued: “What we want to do is ensure that it feels like a love story so we need some kind of warm ending – or a confetti moment for the audience to punch the air with joy.”

But while David will have something to look forward to, he is in for more trouble as he pursues trouble on a rough estate with a violent gang – and misses birthday tea with his mother Gail.
The hairdresser managed to escape a mugging without being injured and seems to have developed a taste for danger.
Meanwhile, David actively pursues danger, venturing to the estate where he knows the fights are breaking out between the gangs.
It all kicks off when he leaps on the bonnet of a gang’s car, daring them to chase him as he runs off into the distance.
