Filmmaker Peque Gallaga dies at 76
Award-winning filmmaker Peque Gallaga passed away on Thursday at the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City. He was 76.
His death was confirmed by his brother, Dr. Ricky Gallaga, who said the director died of complications from past illnesses.
In a statement released on the day he was hospitalized on May 4, Gallaga’s family requested for privacy.
Gallaga is best known for his work on the 1982 classic “Oro, Plata, Mata.” Said to be one of the biggest contributions to Philippine cinema, the movie starred Cherie Gil, Sandy Andolong and Liza Lorena. Other notable works include “Scorpio Nights,” “Magic Temple,” and “Virgin Forest.” NIKA ROQUE
