Man armed with sword spotted swinging it through streets of Leeds
Police dogs hunted down a man who was allegedly roaming the streets of Leeds while swinging a sword.
Officers and dogs swarmed a street in the Armley area of the city, following reports of a male armed with a sword at around 11.15pm yesterday.
A 23-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. He has since been released on bail, West Yorkshire Police said.
Operation Jemlock team – a force-wide operation to reduce knife crime – uploaded an image of the sword, which had a long blade and a gold ornate handle, along with a black sleeve.
A tweet from OpJemlock said: ‘#Armley area of #Leeds, report of a male waving a sword around.
‘Officers from our team swarm the area incluidng an officer from @WYPDogs working with us.
‘Man with sword proves not to be as fast as dog, now in custody. #TacklingNotTolerating #ViolenceisPreventable #LivesNotKnives’.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: ‘At around 11.15pm yesterday a report was received of a male in possession of a sword in the Armley area of Leeds.
‘Officers attended and a 23-year-old man on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. He has been released on bail.’
