UK weather forecast – 25C Bank Holiday heatwave looks set to tempt cooped-up Brits out of lockdown as temperatures soar

BRITS will bask in a 25C heatwave this Bank Holiday weekend as Boris Johnson warns don’t be tempted to break the coronavirus lockdown.

The warm conditions will sweep onto our shores from Spain starting tomorrow ahead of the PM revealing his route-map out of covid-19 crisis on Sunday.

Britons have basked in the glorious sunshine over the last few weeks, with much of the UK only able to enjoy the warm conditions in their gardens and on their balconies due to the lockdown restrictions.

And it looks like the good weather will continue with temperatures to hit 22C and potentially 25C on the bank holiday this Friday which will mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

But Mr Johnson is wary that Brits could flock to parks and even beaches to soak up the sun and told the public today to have “patience”.

He tweeted today: “We cannot throw away of the effort and sacrifice of the British people.

I ask you to contain your impatience because I believe we are coming now to the end of the first phase of the conflict.

Anyone with plans to sunbathe with pals this weekend will be disappointed with No10 warning against any reports that a raft of social distancing measures will be lifted.

NO SUNBATHING

A spokesman said today: “We are asking people to stay at home in order to stop the spread of the virus and, by doing so, protect the NHS and save lives.”

Asked if that meant “don’t sunbathe this weekend”, the spokesman said: “If you want to put it like that.”

There have also been warnings issued by police forces, councils and tourism boards to stop crowds of bank holidaymakers flocking to the coast and countryside.

Devon and Cornwall and Norfolk Police have warned people to adhere to current lockdown restrictions.

While Cumbria Police have also urged people to avoid the Lake District and stay at home.

Gill Haigh, managing director of Cumbria Tourism, said: “When it is once again safe to travel our businesses look forward to welcoming you back – but that time is not now.”

‘HOTTEST MAY BANK HOLIDAY’

On Friday the weather will be dry and warm with sunny spells with some scattered thunderstorms in the south.

There will be rain in the far north, however, turning heavier as it spreads south with much colder weather following.

The bookies have even slashed the odds on this weekend to go down as the hottest Bank Holiday ever.

Coral’s PR Manager John Hill said: “With temperatures set to rise over the new few days, we have slashed the odds on Friday being the hottest May bank holiday we have ever had in the UK.”

But over the weekend, temperatures are likely to turn bitterly-cold, forecasters warn, as Arctic air sweeps southwards across the whole of the country.

BBC’s Mr Taylor said: “Big temperature swings are not desperately unusual for this time of year, but certainly some big changes ahead later this week.

“Through the weekend though, a surge of Arctic air returns and some of you will struggle to get to double figures – even snow showers across the north and east of Scotland.”

UK meteorologists also confirmed that April 2020 went down as the sunniest on record.

The weather was a hit with Brits in lockdown as across the country people took to public parks to do their daily exercise.
