Who was Dame Vera Lynn’s husband?
Harry Lewis was born in 1915 and was a saxophonist and clarinetist.
The couple met in late 1939 when he joined Bert Ambrose’s eponymous orchestra and married in August 1941.
Harry and eight other members of the Ambrose orchestra joined the RAF at the start of the Second World War, and subsequently formed a new dance orchestra, The Squadronaires – they performed all over the UK during the war and was occasionally accompanied by Vera n on vocals.
He also worked as his wife’s manager following the war, and accompanied her on her international concerts, overseeing lighting and production of her shows.
Do Harry Lewis Dame Vera Lynn have children?
The couple had one child.
Virginia was born in March 1946, making her 74.
Vera told The Herald that her reason for only having one child was so that she could carry on working, and would have been unable to do so had she had more children.

When did Harry Lewis pass away?
Vera’s beloved husband passed away in 1998.
In 2019 she admitted that she thinks about him every night before she goes to sleep.
Speaking to The Mirror she said: “I still miss him, even after all these years.”
“I look around at all the mementoes of my life dotted around the room; the pictures of my late husband, Harry – and it all comes flooding back.
“I remember our simple, 1941, wartime wedding, the way my lipstick ran in the tropical heat.”
