SAINSBURY’S shoppers can still nab essentials at the supermarket over the VE Day May bank holiday weekend.
The opening hours will change slightly though – we explain all you need to know.
Victory in Europe Day falls on Friday, May 8, and to mark the occasion, Brits will celebrate with a bank holiday on this day.
Generally known as VE Day, it represents the day the Second World War ended in 1945.
Bank holidays in the UK usually fall on a Monday, but the government moved the early May bank holiday this year so it coincides with the 75th anniversary of VE Day.
Below are Sainsbury’s opening hours for the VE Day bank holiday weekend.
What time is Sainsbury’s open over the VE Day bank holiday weekend?
Over the VE Day May bank holiday, most Sainsbury’s supermarkets will be open from 8am to 8pm.
This also applieson the second bank holiday this month on May 25.
Throughout the rest of May, the vast majority of stores are open from 8am to 10pm.
The opening times of a small number of Sainsbury’s Locals may vary though, so check its store locator for the most up to date information.
Sainsbury’s also offers priority NHS opening hours from 7.30am to 8am Monday to Saturday, as well as a dedicated shopping hour for elderly customers from 8am to 9am Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
These policies will continue over the bank holiday weekend, Sainsbury’s told The Sun.
Sainsbury’s extended its opening hours recently, meaning the “vast majority” of shops are now open from 8am to 10pm during normal weeks.
Sainsbury’s hopes this reduces queuing times both inside and outside stores.
