How to Pronounce Elon Musk's Baby Boy's Name X Æ A-12

0

The newborn son of Elon Musk and his girlfriend Grimes is named X Æ A-12 Musk. If that doesn't trigger immediate rage, try typing it.

Elon Musk may be the accomplished, billionaire founder of multiple companies, a pioneer in the field of space travel, and one of the greatest living engineering minds on the planet Earth, but he's also infamous for "Elon Musking". His social media use is consistently baffling, often times contradicting his own stated positions and beliefs with barely any explanation. He's recently on a streak of nonsensical Twitter behavior, having both minimized claims of the coronavirus' potential deadliness and subsequently spent millions of dollars to help provide equipment to medical professionals fighting it, only to then go back to suggesting it's not really a serious issue. Even more recently, he's complained that Tesla, one of his many companies, had a stock price that too high, tanking it in a span of minutes. At roughly the same time he announced he was selling all of his physical possessions.

Don't spend too much mental effort trying to make sense of his online behavior from the past because deciphering his latest exploits may require all the brainpower we can muster. Elon Musk says on Twitter that his child's name is X Æ A-12 Musk. While we should all be letting little X Æ A-12 rest and congratulating Grimes for giving birth, it's hard not to wonder how to say this absurd name. Musk's followers are locked in a lively debate over the pronunciation, with one user getting a Like from Elon Musk after suggesting it goes "X Ash Archangel": X being the letter, Æ being pronounced "Ash" in some languages, and Archangel being the codename of the Lockheed A-12 reconnaissance aircraft.

The first thing that came to many people's minds when wondering about the validity of Baby Musk's name reveal was to reach out and ask his mother. She responded, tweeting:

Based on that message, which she admits may have been compromised by her current state of recovering from surgery and childbirth, it does seem like X Æ A-12 is a real person's name now. Neither has publicly spoken the name aloud yet, so the internet is left to rely on Wikipedia and arguments to figure it out for the time being. In the meantime, Elon Musk says the child-who-must-not-be-named and his mother are doing fine. Whether they chose this name to get a reaction from people, or they genuinely think that's how human babies are supposed to be named, it's good to hear the baby is healthy.
