Report reveals how much Daniel Levy has ring-fenced for transfers

Tottenham could still have some transfer funds to spend this summer, despite the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, according to a report by ESPN.

Spurs are set to be one of the worst affected of the top flight clubs if the Premier League decides to play next season behind closed doors, with Football Insider estimating that the Lilywhites could lose over £100 million in matchday revenue.

Transfer expert Duncan Castles suggested last month that the club may not have any transfer funds at all to spend this summer (Transfer Window Podcast), with former Spurs director of football Damien Comolli hinting they should be ‘cautious’ in the transfer market because they have to manage their ‘healthy’ stadium debt, (Sky Sports).

The Mirror reported earlier this week that Jose Mourinho’s transfer funds had been slashed and that the club will be prioritising loan signings in the upcoming transfer window.

However, ESPN now claim that Daniel Levy has ring-fenced around £25million for transfers this summer as an emergency buffer.

However, the report does go on to claim that the amount could be diverted elsewhere if the club’s financial situation worsens.

£25m might not sound like a lot but if we get rid of some of our deadwood, we can easily double our transfer kitty. It is worth keeping in mind that almost no club is likely to have any funds to spend this summer and so player values are going to drop drastically. So hopefully, we have can pull off a couple of smart bargain deals.
