Gangs of London has been such a hit NME even suggested “it could well wind up challenging for the title of best crime drama on British TV.”

When asked if there would be a second season, director Gareth Evans was reluctant to reveal too much about any upcoming seasons, but did reveal to The Sun Online there was potential for more stories to be made from the series.

Gareth said: “I think they [Sky and producers] are currently figuring that out.

“I think everyone’s waiting to see what the reaction is to this first season. Naturally, there are certain story threads that are hanging in the air a little bit by the end of the first one.”

He added: “So obviously there’s potential and space for that to continue.

“But I think it’s all it’s all a case of like, wait and see at this point. It’s a little too early in the day to kind of like, really sort of say too much about any of the any of the plans.”

But actor Sope Dirisu who plays Elliot Finch – the wannabe gangster hiding a big secret – went one step further to say there was “intent” to make more of the gory drama.

He told The Sun Online: “It really depends on viewing figures. We’ve already been out a couple of weeks so far and we haven’t released internationally yet.

“So it really depends on how well it’s received when all is said and done.

“I think there’s definitely the intent for it.”

A Sky spokesperson told The Sun Online that there was “no update yet” on season two of Gangs of London.

The action follows Sean and the aftermath of the murder of Finn (Colm Meany) who was the top gangster in London for 20 years.

And while nobody knows who ordered the hit, due to Finn’s sudden absence, there is a void that needs filling within the gangster world and international gangs of criminals fight to fill the power vacuum.

In the meantime, Sean tries to maintain the control his family had enjoyed for decades.

Gangs of London can be viewed on Sky Atlantic on Thursday at 9pm.
