6 more coronavirus deaths in Oregon, with statewide total now at 121
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — On the same day Gov. Kate Brown announced phased guidelines for re-opening Oregon from the coronavirus pandemic, the Oregon Health Authority announced six more people died, another 70 cases are confirmed with three more possible cases.
The six new deaths included an 84-year-old woman in Clackamas County, a 62-year-old man in Marion County, an 82-year-old woman in Marion County, an 80-year-old man in Multnomah County, a 71-year-old woman in Multnomah County and a 69-year-old woman in Polk County. All of these people had underlying health conditions, the Oregon Health Authority said.
The six deaths bring the state’s cumulative total to 121.
The 70 new confirmed and presumptive cases were reported in the following counties: Benton (4), Clackamas (6), Clatsop (1), Coos (1), Deschutes (2), Jefferson (4), Marion (21), Morrow (1), Multnomah (16), Polk (3), Washington (11), Yamhill (3).
Oregon’s total confirmed positive case-count now stand at 2,957.
Meanwhile, in Washington state, health officials there announced 21 more deaths, with the statewide total standing at 891. The total number of cases statewide stands at 16,231, with the highest number in King County. One new case of coronavirus was confirmed in Clark County since Wednesday, bringing the total number of positive cases to 342.

Earlier in the day, Brown introduced new guidelines to gradually reopen Oregon starting May 15.
Among the highlights: Rural counties with smaller numbers of positive cases must meet requirements; large gatherings have been banned through the summer; requiring employees to wear face masks at businesses where social distancing is hard to keep.
