Agents of SHIELD Series Finale Won’t Be As Divisive As Game of Thrones
Agents of SHIELD star Chloe Bennet believes fans will be more satisfied with the series finale than Game of Thrones' ending. The final season of the acclaimed ABC Marvel thriller begins tonight. The Agents of SHIELD season 7 full-length trailer was released last month, promising an adventure in 1930s Manhattan.
Agents of SHIELD has come a long way since its premiere episode in 2013. The show is a spinoff of the MCU, bringing back Agent Coulson from his demise in The Avengers. As the seasons went on, the storytelling grew bolder, introducing the Inhumans, Graviton, and even Ghost Rider. Season 6 ended with a couple of intriguing developments. First, Coulson returned, though as an LMD. How this affects the team dynamic remains to be seen. Clark Gregg says Coulson's LMD is not like Star Trek's Data. The cliffhanger leading to the upcoming season has the team arrive in 1930s Manhattan. Whereas season 5 took place in the future, this time the past will be the key part. Gregg has teased multiple time periods for the season.
In an interview with Collider, Bennet, who plays Daisy Johnson on Agents of SHIELD, discussed her character's growth, and the show's final season. One of the questions asked is if the actress believes fans will be satisfied with how things come to an end. According to Bennet, this shouldn't go down like Game of Thrones.
"Yes, I do. This is not a Game of Thrones situation. I think fans will be very satisfied with the way that the show ends. There are a lot of endings. There are a lot of people on the show, and there are a lot of ways that it could go. This show has been kept alive by our fans. I think it’s safe to say that everyone was constantly thinking about how to make it more enjoyable, especially for the people who’ve been watching the show since Season 1."
Recently, Bennet also said every character will have a "fitting" ending in the show's final season. Game of Thrones was highly praised by fans, until its final episode. Unfortunately for the HBO program, the final episode was extremely divisive, to the point where it dominated discussion on how negatively received it was. Few programs have generated such a negative social media response on its ending. It sounds like Agents of SHIELD will avoid that reception. Of course, not everyone can be pleased. But, if the show does have an ending that is generally received well, Agents of SHIELD will be remembered as a great addition to the MCU all the way to its end.
Agents of SHIELD has quite a few characters going into its final season. It will certainly be challenging giving everyone a quality ending, but the show has proven to be able to handle long-standing character arcs. Besides that, it should simply be a fun romp into the 1930s setting, where the show will crossover with Agent Carter's Daniel Sousa. It seems like fans should be in for a treat.
Agents of SHIELD returns tonight, on ABC.
