Japanese firms donate face masks, shields to Calabarzon frontliners

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Region 4A (Calabarzon) turned over 9,000 surgical masks and 50 face shields from Japanese companies Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. and Taiheiyo Cement Corp., respectively, to Mayor Rommel Gecolea of Cabuyao City, Laguna province. In a statement on Tuesday night, the DTI said the protective equipment were shipped for free with the help Ibiden Japan. “Our frontliners are considered heroes in the battle against the [coronavirus disease 2019] pandemic, and these valuable donations of Tsuneishi and Taiheiyo will surely be of help to our heroes,” said Marilou Toledo, DTI-4A director. The department has been responding to the needs of the hospitals and communities in Calabarzon providing personal protective equipment such as face masks and face shields for health workers and frontliners during the pandemic through its Shared Service Facility.
