Is Grant Gavin an under the radar prospect?

After being drafted out of Central Missouri by the Royals in the 29th round, Grant Gavin posted an ERA below 3.00 in Burlington. He continued his success in Lexington with a 1.38 ERA. In 2018, Gavin tripped up slightly in Wilmington with a 3.19 ERA. That’s still not that bad if you ask me. Gavin was promoted to Double-A Northwest Arkansas that same season. After being promoted to the Naturals in 2018, he spent the entire 2019 season in Double-A. Unfortunately, Gavin did not receive an invite to Spring Training by the Royals in 2020. Gavin’s chances of getting called up by the Royals have definitely increased since the MLB has agreed to expand big league rosters. To make that happen, Gavin might have to increase his velocity to make it to the show with the Royals. Royals Assistant General Manager J.J. Piccollo said this about Gavin in an interview with Rustin Dodd of the Athletic in 2018, “But the curveball has always been the pitch that has allowed him to compete.” If he can increase his fastball’s velocity, I believe we could see him in the big leagues very soon for the boys in blue. Until then, let’s hope he has a good season with Omaha in 2020. That’s if Omaha is able to play this season.
