TWO black women paid for a white cop’s breakfast – then left him a powerful note saying: “Black Lives Matter but so does yours.”

Tennessee deputy Jody McDowell was so touched by the gesture – a rare moment of harmony amid nationwide anger at police – that he shared it on social media.

He was treated to his meal by the two strangers during a pit stop while on duty yesterday in Nashville.

They did not stop to speak to him, but passed a note to the waiter.

It said: “BLM, but so does yours. Thank you for your service. Breakfast paid.”

McDowell shared it on Facebook, saying: “I want to thank the two sweet black ladies who paid for my breakfast this morning.

“While waiting for a transport to be completed, I decided to have breakfast at a Cracker Barrel near the Nashville airport. I received this note from them.”

Hundreds of people left comments praising the gesture, which comes after furious protests at the death of George Floyd and demands to “defund” police forces.

Susanne Germain said: “Finally there is hope.

“This country is losing their minds yet 2 black women saw a way to do something positive during so much turmoil in our country.

“I wish I could give these ladies a big hug!”

Arista Powers said: “Faith in humanity restored! I needed this positive story so badly.

“Your life DOES matter and thank you for keeping us safe.

“God bless you and these wonderful women. This made my whole week.”

Racial tensions have erupted across the US following the death of Floyd, who was filmed gasping “I can’t breathe” as a white cop knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes in Minnesota.

Last weekend the police shooting of suspected drink driver Rayshard Brooks in Atlanta sparked more angry protests.

Black Lives Matter demos have been held across the world as allegations of endemic racism and brutality in police forces highlighted wider issues of injustice and inequality.
