Scrubs: 5 Times We Felt Bad For Carla (& 5 Times We Hated Her)
The characters, dynamics, and relationships of Scrubs are truly a standout of the show, and a crucial component of it all is Carla Espinosa. Significant other of Turk, and resident mother of the characters, Carla is an essential character, but also one with perhaps the most unlikeable qualities.
It is safe to say there are many times throughout her eight seasons on the show she is very hateable. However, she is far from all bad and is a great friend and wife a lot of the time, helping to make her sympathetic when things go wrong.
10 Felt Bad - When It Looks Like Turk Will Dump Carla
After a decent amount of time together, in "My Blind Date," things are starting to look bad for the pair, with Turk getting very frustrated with Carla.
It looks very much like Turk is going to leave her, and we feel for Carla. But, as it turns out, despite how much she annoys him, he says he loves her for the first time.
9 Hated - When She Controls Turk
Despite the fact he loves her, Carla is like a strict mother to Turk. She is continually controlling his every move.
When Carla tried to give Turk a bedtime, it was abysmal and embarrassing for Turk, and he was quite right to get annoyed. There are so many examples of Carla attempting to control Turk, with even Turk getting frustrated by it on occasion.
8 Felt Bad - When Turk Did Not Tell Her About Perry's Feelings
It gets revealed early in the show that Perry has feelings for Carla, and is not a fan of Turk due to their relationship, something Turk knows full well but does not reveal to Carla.
When Carla finds out, she is hurt, not only with Turk's breaking of their trust but because he did not believe in their relationship enough not to fear Cox taking Carla from him.
7 Hated - When She Bosses Everyone Around & Acts Like A Know-It-All
Similar to her controlling of Turk, Carla is the bossiest person ever; it is her way, or it is the highway, and she is like this to everybody.
Early on, it is a big issue professionally because she sees herself as the boss, despite being a nurse. On top of that, she is a massive know-it-all, believing she knows everything about everybody, getting up in their business, and giving advice about things she shouldn't have, putting her nose where it does not belong, e.g., Cox and Jordan's relationship.
6 Felt Bad - When J.D. Revealed Her Secrets
When Carla decided to open up to J.D. and reveal to him some of her secrets, it seemed to be a good step for their relationship, with Carla not usually opening up to people for fear of being seen as crazy.
But, J.D. betrayed that trust by not only telling Turk about those secrets and feelings but by calling her a big can of crazy to Turk.
5 Hated - Dating 'Hot Butt'
In "My Moment Of Un-Truth," we are introduced to Ron Ramirez, aka 'Hot Butt,' a guy who Carla considers to be her what if guy.
While having doubts about Turk and their future - while engaged - Carla decides to go on a date with Ron, basically to test her love for Turk or to see if she likes Ron. It is a deplorable thing to do, and one of the worst things Carla does to Turk in the series, without him even knowing.
4 Felt Bad - When Laverne Dies
Of the hospital staff, Laverne is the only real big death in the cast, and it is an extremely difficult watch and is doubly difficult an experience for Carla.
As her closest friend in the hospital out of the central three, Laverne meant a lot to Carla. When she dies, we sympathize with everyone who cared for Laverne, but just a little extra for Carla.
3 Hated - When She Spies On Turk
Throughout the later parts of the show, fans start to find out that Carla has people at the hospital who act as spies to report to her on Turk.
What kind of sane person does this? This is not an act of love it is an act of distrust and is something Turk really should not have put up with, being scared to say anything for fear of his wife, as we see in season nine when he pays everyone $20 not to tell Carla he called her annoying.
2 Felt Bad - When Her Mom Died
Undoubtedly the worst thing to happen to Carla throughout the show and the moment in which we feel most sympathetic for Carla is when her mother dies.
The two were extremely close, and this death stopped everything in its tracks for a moment, breaking Carla's heart, fans truly relate with Carla here, and the whole thing resonates painfully.
1 Hated - When She Kicks J.D. Out
One of the most infuriating things to ever happen on Scrubs is when Carla gets J.D. kicked out of the apartment that he, she, and Turk share with one another.
What makes it, so blood boilingly annoying is the fact that it is J.D.'s apartment, one he got and then invited Turk too. Carla effectively made J.D. homeless for no real reason other than wanting it. She treated J.D. like garbage a lot, and this was the worst of the worst.
