Spider-Man: Miles Morales Is One Year After PS4 Spider-Man (& Shorter)
According to a pair of recent leaks, Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be set one year after Marvel’s Spider-Man, as well as having a shorter plot. This newest installment in Insomniac’s budding series of open-world games centered around the iconic webslinger turned heads when it was announced last Thursday as part of the PlayStation 5 reveal event, with even Miles’s co-creator Brian Michael Bendis expressing pride in the development.
Unfortunately, the excitement brought on by Spider-Man: Miles Morales’s unveiling was tempered by confusion as to whether it was a completely separate spin-off game or just additional DLC to the last Spider-Man title. After a couple of days' worth of conflicting accounts on the matter, it was eventually confirmed that Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be a full-on standalone title.
Now, fans might have an idea as to when Spider-Man: Miles Morales takes place, as well as how long the game will be overall. Video game news tracker Nibel posted an enticing message regarding the new game on his Twitter page earlier today. In it, he states that Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be set a full year after the end of the first Spider-Man title, in addition to featuring new villains, set-pieces, and quests. Additionally, it has been confirmed in a blog post on PlayStation’s website that the game will have a shorter plot than Marvel’s Spider-Man, not unlike Naughty Dog’s Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Check out Nibel’s tweet on Spider-Man: Miles Morales’s place in the timeline below:
When players last saw Insomniac’s take on Miles, Peter Parker had just started training him in using his newly-acquired super-powers to protect New York City as a secondary Spider-Man. Most versions of Miles’s story, such as the original Ultimate Spider-Man comics he was first introduced in and the hit 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, have him taking up the mantle of Marvel’s favorite Web-Slinger after Peter dies, but judging from the former’s narration during the Spider-Man: Miles Morales reveal trailer and Insomniac hinting that they will continue Peter’s adventures in a future Marvel’s Spider-Man sequel, this doesn’t seem to be the case.
Given that the trailer for Spider-Man: Miles Morales shows the teen hero already wearing his trademark Spidey costume and seemingly having enough of a grasp on his powers to begin crime-fighting on his own, it makes sense for the game to take place a fair amount of time after the ending of the previous Spider-Man title. Furthermore, since the game is set to be a spin-off of Marvel’s Spider-Man rather than a full-blown sequel, the shorter plot is to be expected. There are still more details about the game to be revealed, such as its overall plot and where Peter is during the proceedings, but those are sure to be made clear as Spider-Man: Miles Morales swings toward its planned release date alongside the PlayStation 5 this holiday season.
