California Gov Gavin Newsom says residents ‘now REQUIRED to wear face coverings in public’ due to coronavirus fears
CALIFORNIA Governor Gavin Newsom has announced that residents are “now REQUIRED to wear face coverings in public” due to coronavirus fears.
The new rule will be enforced starting June 18 and requires Californians to wear face coverings when social distancing is not possible, according to the Official California State Government website.
Gov Newsom tweeted Thursday: “Californians are now REQUIRED to wear face coverings in public spaces.
“Together — we can slow the spread. Do your part. Wear a mask.”
The new guidelines urge people to wear masks or face coverings in common and public indoor spaces and outdoors when physical distancing is not an option.
“Cloth face coverings help reduce the spread of coronavirus especially when combined with physical distancing and frequent hand washing,” the website explains.
According to the CDC, social distancing means keeping a distance of at least six feet from other people.
“The use of face coverings by everyone can limit the release of infected droplets when talking, coughing, and/or sneezing, as well as reinforce physical distancing,” the California guidelines state.
High-risk situations, according to the guidelines, include waiting for or riding on public transportation, interacting in-person with any member of the public, and obtaining services from the healthcare sector.
Walking through common areas and working in any space where food is prepared or packaged for sale are also times when face coverings should be worn.
