LIKE a freshly sharpened scythe, the coronavirus emergency continues to sweep its deadly way through the labour market. Even with lock-down easing, this week has seen a fresh wave of job losses - 5,000 at food chain Upper Crust, 1,700 at aircraft manufacturer Airbus and 2,000 at the Royal Mail. Unemployment could dramatically worsen as the Government begins to end its huge job protection schemes which have so far covered 12 million workers.
