LIVE: Fort Hood senior commander provides update on investigation into Vanessa Guillen’s disappearance

FORT HOOD, Texas (KXAN) — The senior commander at Fort Hood is holding a news conference Thursday to provide an update on the disappearance of Spc. Vanessa Guillen.

Maj. Gen. Scott Efflandt, III Corps deputy commanding general, will address the current status of the investigation at 2 p.m. KXAN will live stream those comments in this story and on the KXAN News Facebook page.

The senior commander will be joined by Fort Hood’s U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command and representatives from law enforcement agencies that are assisting with the investigation.

Guillen’s family members held their own news conference in Washington, D.C. Wednesday, where their lawyer stated they believe human remains found in Bell County earlier this week belong to the missing soldier. However, no official confirmation has been made just yet.

Fort Hood also announced that a military suspect in Guillen’s disappearance shot and killed himself Wednesday after he fled his post Tuesday. Authorities, also arrested another suspect, who’s currently being held in Bell County awaiting charges.

Guillen was last seen on April 22, and her disappearance prompted rallies, searches and calls for justice on social media.
