Alex Perez stopped Jussier Formiga with leg kicks at UFC 250, but the knee wasn’t the reason why the Brazilian flyweight needed to go under the knife after all.

Formiga had surgery in the United States

Formiga feared for a serious knee injury during the 125-pound bout on June 6, but told MMA Fighting on Wednesday that post-fight tests showed he only had leg contractures.

His right shoulder required a procedure, though.

“I ended up having shoulder surgery and will be sidelined for a bit,” Formiga said. “I also felt (the shoulder) in the fight. I hurt it in camp and ended up doing a MRI, and it showed an injury.”

Formiga expects to be sidelined from training for 8 to 10 weeks.

The loss to Perez in Las Vegas put Formiga (23-8) in the longest skid of his MMA career, a trio of defeats that includes a decision to Brandon Moreno and a knockout against Joseph Benavidez.

Perez, on the other hand, improved to 24-6 in the sport with six wins in seven UFC appearances.
