Here's how many times The Good Place demon Chris Baker used the excuse of going to the gym. The Good Place is a sitcom that follows Eleanor (Kristen Bell) as she arrives in an idyllic version of the afterlife dubbed "The Good Place," which is her reward for a life well-lived. The trouble is they've got her mixed up with another Eleanor and she was a selfish, apathetic person during her time on Earth. She wants to avoid heading to The Bad Place, but her lies soon spiral out of control in hilarious ways.
The Good Place is one of the most unique sitcoms of the last decade or so, and in addition to featuring a great comic ensemble, it tended to constantly reinvent itself. The show ran through story arcs that would last for an entire season on any other series in the span of a single episode, and it always maintained a fast pace. The Good Place came to an end with season 4, which gave Eleanor and her oddball collection of friends a fitting sendoff.
Given how complete The Good Place's ending felt, its hard to see how it could be revived with the same characters either. The Bad Place was basically the show's version of Hell, and was complete with all the demons - and petty bureaucracy - that entails. The chief villain was Michael's boss Shawn, but Bad Janet and Trevor also served as threats. The season 1 finale also introduced Chris Baker (Luke Guldan) as Eleanor's new soulmate during a reset, after she figured out the "Good" Place is really a different version of The Bad Place run by Michael (Ted Danson).
Chris Baker is a demon disguised as a very hulky dude, but whenever Eleanor attempts to talk with him seriously, he abruptly rips off his shirt and announces he has to go to the gym. The Good Place season 2 premiere reveals he's done this many times, to the point Michael becomes worried about the exact number. Chris reveals that by that point he'd used the gym excuse nine times, and had mistaken Michael's suggestion of the type of thing he could say as the excuse he uses every single time.
Following a fight on this point with Michael, he rips off his shirt and heads to the gym again, bringing his total count up to ten. The Good Place's Chris Baker was originally a twisting demon - which is exactly what it sounds like - and is stressed out by Michael's more psychological approach to torture, which is why he just defaults to going to the gym to escape conversations.
