Even Justice League Movie Fans Will Like Snyder Cut, Says J.K. Simmons

J.K. Simmons thinks fans of the theatrical cut of Justice League should be interested in Zack Snyder's version. Simmons played Commissioner Gordon, taking the baton from Gary Oldman and Pat Hingle, who both played the character in previous Batman films.  Although Justice League was reasonably well-received by general audiences, there has been yearning for Snyder, who famously left the production before the film was complete, to release his version of the superhero epic.

In the years since Justice League's release in 2017, there have been rumors about a significantly different version of the film than the Joss Whedon-helmed one released in theaters. The lighter mood and additional changes Whedon made to the film were met with less than stellar reviews. As rumored cut scenes and storylines surfaced, a very vocal longing to see Snyder's version emerged. The rumors were finally given life when HBO announced the Snyder Cut would be released exclusively on HBO Max in 2021.

On THR's In Conversation With podcast, J.K. Simmons says fans of Whedon's Justice League should be interested in seeing Snyder's cut. Simmons spoke about how he's in favor of a film's director getting to show their intended vision and cited Snyder's pedigree within the superhero genre as one of the reasons people should have faith in the director's cut. Simmons also confirmed that he had recent conversations with Snyder about the new version of the film, which could mean he's involved with the director's cut to some degree.

"Whatever your feelings were about the version that was at first released, I think even if you absolutely loved everything about that film, I would certainly be interested as an audience to see Zack's vision."

Simmons' comments come at a time when it is still unclear exactly what the differences will be between the original Justice League and Snyder's version. Some argue, given the chaotic nature of the film's production, that this new cut couldn't possibly be Snyder's original intended vision. However, the director himself has stated there will be "no compromises," and wants to release the definitive version of the film. As of now, concrete facts about the Snyder Cut are few and far between, leaving most fans to speculate and put the pieces together themselves.

While there is some trepidation concerning what new material the Snyder Cut will contain, Simmons' comments should reassure even casual viewers that the new cut of the film will be a product true to the director's original vision. If viewers are on the fence about watching the Snyder Cut of Justice League, perhaps Simmons' reassurance that it's worth viewing will convince them to settle in for the extended-release.
