Photo: Eva Longoria, who most recently starred in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, is in the middle of promoting Specsavers, a line of eyeglasses, in Australia. A writer for the Sydney Morning Herald figured she’d blown the whole thing wide open by reporting that there was a chance Longoria might not even need glasses. In a piece titled “Why Eva Longoria’s shilling is shameful,” Jenna Clarke writes, “All I could find were two photos of her ever spotted wearing glasses outside the house, oh and the few occasions she was seen looking uncomfortable and unsteady wearing a pair around Sydney this week.” To which Longoria responded with the full force of an open letter, via Twitter, slamming Clarke for not doing her due search diligence, and pointing out a host of intellectual moments scattered across the Desperate Housewives actress’s past during which she did indeed wear glasses to read important documents in public. “Sorry I haven’t worn glasses on a red carpet Jenna,” she writes, “but shockingly I am not usually READING a book on the red carpet.” The Daily Mail, Buzzfeed, Mashable—everyone is covering this “scandal” this morning.
