How to Find (& Catch) The Walker Cicada in Animal Crossing
Summertime cicadas don't stick around very long, and the Walker Cicada in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is no exception. This critter only just arrived as one of the new bugs for August but will leave the Northern hemisphere at the end of September. Players looking to complete their collections and fill the Museum will want to grab it before it's gone for the season. Completing the full bug collection will also grant players the recipe for the Gold Net, one of several Gold tools available in the game that is much more durable. The Gold Net can catch up to around 100 bugs, making it the best in the game and worth getting.
Players can only catch Walker Cicadas after they have caught at least 20 bugs in the game, so new players will want to net a few before going cicada hunting. Like most cicadas do in real life, the Walker Cicada makes a very distinct noise that can alert the player it's near. Because it is uncommon, players will want to keep an ear out for its whirring call. Here's how to find and catch a Walker Cicada before they fly away.
The Walker Cicada is a daytime bug that is active from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day. Players will find it on the trunks of fruit and wood trees around their island, and, when one is nearby, players will hear a high-pitched, almost squeaky revving sound.
Walker Cicadas will still be available when it rains. They sell for 400 bells each. For players in the Southern hemisphere, the Walker Cicada should arrive in February and stay until March.
Like most bugs in the game, Walker Cicadas are somewhat skittish. Players will need to sneak up on the bug with a net to capture it. When they see a Walker Cicada, which is brownish-green in color, they should hold down the A button and move forward slowly. Once the player is close to the tree trunk, releasing the button will swing the net and catch the bug.
If this is the first Walker Cicada a player catches, it should go to Blathers at the Museum for the collection. Though he will seem disgusted, as he does not care much for bugs, he will be happy enough that the player is contributing to the collection. If players have more than one, they can sell the extras, either to Timmy and Tommy or to Flick for a higher price. They can also bring three to Flick to commission a bug statue from him.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available for the Nintendo Switch.
