Fall Guys: How To Win & Best Survival Strategies | Screen Rant
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is a battle royale game developed by Mediatonic and published by Devolver Digital. The game consists of elimination-style “shows” where they play a series of rounds until there is only one player remaining. Complete with colorful arenas and slapstick humor, Fall Guys requires a certain level of chance and skill for players to emerge victorious.
Fall Guys puts 60 contestants through elimination-style rounds to narrow down the best of the best. Players can invite friends and play with them, and some rounds will split contestants up randomly into teams to eliminate large groups of contestants at once. The primary goal for all contestants is to be the “last guy standing”. While the odds of winning are low, players can employ certain strategies to come out on top. Players can also earn points that will help them level up and collect new cosmetic items, so the further someone gets in a round the better.
There are four main types of rounds in Fall Guys: race, hunt, puzzle, and final. These could be broken down into smaller groups, but for the sake of succinctness, we’ll stick to four. The type of round will change as players are picked off, as many of the starting rounds rely on chance to eliminate about a third of the players and the later rounds rely more on skill. Players will need to take a different approach for each one.
Race rounds are obstacle courses that will only allow a certain number of contestants to progress to the next round. Some of them have hazards such as conveyor belts, swinging wrecking balls, and doors. Many have checkpoints so that if a player falls off of a platform or course they will reappear and be able to continue.
Other than the intentional obstacles, other players can make it harder. Wait for about a third of the players to leave the starting area and follow them, as many will trip each other up, get in the way, or grab each other. Once one fall guy falls, they all follow. They can also pave a way for other players in Tip Toe and Door Dash.
In race rounds with conveyor belts, it’s best to take the path of least resistance and run in the direction of the belt. There are also lower levels in a lot of the rounds, so if a player falls off a surface, not all is lost, except in Slime Climb where if a player falls off and touches slime they are eliminated.
Chase rounds are solo or team rounds where players need to hunt down players or items to score points. There is only one solo hunt round, Tail Tag, where players have to chase down others that have tails and protect theirs if they’ve obtained them. It may be best for players to keep a low profile once they’ve stolen their tail, hiding under structures or keeping their backs to the wall.
In team hunt rounds, players may need to defend an area from other teams while their teammates run offence. Fall Ball, Hoarders, and Egg Scramble require players to bring items back to their team’s area or move balls to another team’s goal. Other team events will require players to work together to move objects around obstacles, like in Rock ‘N’ Roll, or chase down or avoid other players, like in Jinxed or Team Tail Tag. For the most part, as long as a player’s team is doing well offensively, they can fill in defensive positions.
There are three puzzle rounds in Fall Guys: Block Party, Roll out, and Perfect Match. These rounds require players to either wait out a clock or be one of the few remaining contestants.
Roll Out will place players along a cylinder with sections that spin in different directions with different walls and obstacles on them. Players will need to avoid gaps in the sections or getting caught by a wall as they turn. Staying in one of the sections in the middle gives the player options when it comes to moving to another section, and players can jump and dive to make quick saves and cross gaps.
Block Party is very similar, as walls will appear in various positions and lengths moving towards the players. Staying in the middle of the platform is helpful so that players have time to react but can also move to the correct positions before other players get in the way. Similar to Roll Out, players can jump and dive to the correct position during close calls.
In Perfect Match, players will start off standing on tiles that will flash to show which fruit is on the other side. The screen will then show the fruit tile that the player should stand on. If a player stands on the wrong tile, they will fall into the slime below. Only a certain amount of tiles will flash at a time, and the difficulty of the levels will get harder as the round continues. Players should move to a section with a variety of fruit on each side of them, so they can memorize where different fruits are in relation to them.
There are three final rounds: Fall Mountain, Hex-a-Gone, and Royal Fumble. The goal of these rounds is to eliminate all but one competitor. Fall Mountain is a pretty straight forward race with a few conveyor belts. Keep in mind that it’s quicker to travel in the direction of the belts. At the top of the mountain awaits a crown that can be grabbed to win.
Hex-a-Gone is a round where the hexagon-shaped tiles fall away shortly after they are stepped on. There are multiple layers of tiles. Players should keep a distance from other players and run back and forth in rows. They can also jump about one tile in distance, so if there is another section on the layer that could hold the player for a while, they should make a break for it. Diving is unreliable as it could knock the player off their feet and not give them time to recover. If the player falls down to the next layer and there is nothing underneath, they’ll sink down to the slime and be eliminated.
Royal Fumble is similar to Tail Tag, but only one player has the tail. Players may start all running in one direction after the tail, so try to counter in the other direction. Once a player has a tail, they should try as hard as possible not to stumble or run into obstacles.
Once a player has completed the final round, they are crowned victorious. While a lot is up to chance, strategies can help players make the most out of a new show.
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is available on PC and PlayStation 4.
