Picking up groceries for a loved one. Sharing supply of toilet paper or Lysol. Paying someone’s bills amid a job loss. Letting people know they miss you.

Things aren’t all bad. We asked Chicagoans: What’s the nicest thing someone’s done for you during the coronavirus pandemic? Some answers have been condensed and lightly edited for clarity.

“Both my daughters picked us up groceries and brought them over. I was too afraid to go out often then.” — Michelle Karli

“I was in McDonald’s drive-thru the other day when the car in front of me paid for my meal. It was a pleasant surprise.” — Tamara Shepard

We still have helpers in this awful world. And here 99% of the people I see care enough about others to wear masks! The essential workers are also wonderful!” — Beverly Hajek Cooper
