Othercide - How to Defeat The Maid (Boss Strategies & Tips)

0

Othercide is a turn-based tactic game by The Lightbulb Crew that lets players use their army of Daughters, fierce warriors, against the forces of Suffering that plagues humankind. With their army in tow, players can complete missions and defeat nightmarish bosses in a dark battlefield affected by the Dynamic Timeline System, which dictates who will attack and when. There are five eras in the game, each one containing seven days of missions and a boss. This boss can be faced on the fourth day to progress to the next era if the player’s units are prepared, or on the seventh day. Facing a boss on the fourth day can help the player save units that may be lost if they wait until the seventh day and continue to complete quests.

The Maid is the third boss in Othercide. Armed with a scythe, she appears in the third era, The Broken Beauty, and is a ruthless opponent. There are three different phases of the battle that will be triggered when her health level reaches a certain percentage, and they all use different attacks and abilities. Each phase gets more difficult as the player progresses and The Maid gets weaker. During this battle, the Scythedancer character class will be unlocked for the player to use.

A big component of The Maid’s boss battle is to prevent her from healing or moving up in the timeline. Players should deal as much damage between her attacks as possible. The player is allowed a squad of four Daughters at the beginning of the boss battle, consisting of Blademasters, Shieldbearers, and Soulslingers. Ranged attacks are a strategy that might work best in this battle, allowing Daughters to stay out of The Maid’s reach. Make sure that the Soulslingers are well equipped before entering this battle. Shieldbearers will also be an important component in this battle, protecting their sisters from The Maid’s powerful attacks.

The Maid starts with a health meter of 35,000 HP and uses Reaping, Vow of Chastity, Sisterly Love, Collection, and Transfiguration in the first phase of the boss battle. Reaping is her main attack, it will only hit the three tiles in front of her. Vow of Chastity and Sisterly love are reaction moves that The Maid can use to increase initiative and interrupt attacks to deal damage. Collection will allow The Maid to throw her scythe and sap health from her victims. Transfiguration will be used once she is at 80% health to take a turn after the player is done.

From the get-go, it’s clear that Sisterly Love and Reaping are The Maid’s most impactful attacks against the Daughters. Sisterly Love will mostly affect melee Daughters like the Blademaster and Scythedancers. Make sure that attacks are being used efficiently, as Vow of Chastity will allow The Maid to move to the front of the timeline system. This will happen the more she is attacked. Collection is a charged attack that can’t be used very frequently, but will also affect daughters in eight directions from The Maid, within five tiles of her.

Once she is at 80% health, the second phase of The Maid’s attack will begin. In this phase, she uses the moves Vow of Poverty, Forbidden Love, and Deception. Vow of Poverty will heal The Maid with 100 HP every time a move is made, so attacks will need to be well thought out. Forbidden Love will give The Maid the ability to interrupt ranged attacks and deal damage. As for Deception, this attack will deal damage and cause a knockback. This attack will affect Daughters in front of The Maid and around her, but there is a small amount of space behind her that will not be affected.

When The Maid is at half health, she will begin the third phase of the battle. The two attacks that she has access to in this phase is the Vow of Obedience and Lost Love. The Vow of Obedience will give The Maid initiative whenever the Daughters take an action. Lost Love can also interrupt any boost or buff and deal damage.

Chip away at The Maid’s health as much as possible without moving so that she cannot be healed easily. Even if it seems risky to stay in one place for long, Daughters should not move except for out of The Maid’s reach, as they will soon be relieved. When The Maid is at 10,000 damage, The Mother will birth a Scythedancer Daughter. She can be used to pierce The Maid’s armor.

While The Maid has a lot of reaction skills that can interrupt attacks from the Daughters, her attacks can be interrupted as well. Soulslingers should use intercepting rounds to interrupt her attacks and protect their sisters. Keep in mind where The Maid’s attacks will land and make sure that the Daughters take the least amount of damage possible. If some do fall to her attacks, they can be resurrected in the Cemetery.

After The Maid has been vanquished, players will be rewarded with two Remembrance Perks, allowing players to earn more XP and skip an era if needed. They will also earn the “The Broken Beauty” achievement. With The Maid defeated and the Scythedancer unlocked, players now have a powerful addition to their arsenal and a way to pierce their enemies’ armor. Creating a well-rounded army and strengthening their offensive attacks is a huge asset in defeating the Suffering.
