The Bachelorette: Becca Kufrin & Garrett Yrigoyen Break Up
Becca Kufrin and Garrett Yrigoyen from The Bachelorette have broken up. They have been on unstable territory amidst differences on human rights issues. The couple got engaged on season 14 of the reality show. From the start, their relationship has been subject to scrutiny. Garrett had his fair share of criticism from his time on the show, most of which was due to various racist and homophobic social media posts that he liked or shared. At the time, The Bachelorette alum defended his actions by saying he was mindlessly “double tapping” and had no intentions of causing trouble, and his fiancé, Becca, appeared to stand by her man. However, The Bachelorette audiences weren’t buying the excuses and have kept a close eye on the controversial star since.
Fast forward to June 2020, when Garrett took to Instagram during a huge movement supporting Black Lives and protests against the death of George Floyd. The 31-year-old posted a now infamous black square with a thin blue line through it, followed by a lengthy caption explaining his support for police and “blue lives.” The post was met with severe backlash from all over, including fellow The Bachelorette star, Rachel Lindsay. Rachel Lindsay has been an outspoken voice for Bachelor Nation and didn’t hold back her thoughts, stating on The Bachelor Happy Hour, a podcast she cohosts with Becca Kufrin: “The problem is the people who don’t realize what they’re doing is a form of racism, the problem is people who are putting things out there against the movement and the problem is doing things that perpetuate and play into a particular behavior, which is what I have an issue with the Bachelor franchise.” This spawned a series of statements and follow-up podcasts where Becca grappled with defending her relationship with Garrett while expressing her difference of views that contradicted her fiancé. She even stumbled through a podcast with Rachel apologizing for her inability to speak to the situation fully, “When we recorded the podcast, it was also 18 hours after Garrett's social media post. I was dealing with trying to first wrap around my head that and also dealing with discord within my relationship and what it was causing between my family.”
Now it appears that “discord” could have caused the inevitable end to The Bachelorette engagement, as E News has reported that the couple has broken things off. According to a source from E, “Becca is still very upset with Garrett's comments and the controversy surrounding it,” and, "Their lifestyles don't mesh anymore. Garrett wants different things and they came to a realization that they aren't compatible anymore." The source also revealed the couple was no longer living together and that Garrett was off on a camping trip with friends while he “is taking time for himself.”
This would all be rather conclusive information if it weren’t for another twist in the saga, which spawned from Becca commenting on E New’s Instagram post saying, "Lol, interesting ‘source.’ I mean if nothing else, the least you could do is spell the names correctly and consistently in your article." While she doesn't deny the source, she also isn’t confirming any of the details; leaving Bachelor fans in a limbo of 'he said, she said'.
While it would be no surprise if the couple decided to call it quits, especially since disagreeing on social rights matters is usually a make-or-break deal in a relationship. Fans will have to wait for The Bachelorette pair to publicly announce their breakup to the world.
