Harry Potter: 5 Characters Who Would Make The Best Boyfriends (& 5 Who Would Make The Worst)
Harry Potter fans have big imaginations when it comes to their favorite books and movies. They know that even if a ship is canon, there is always another way to imagine the story. Fan fiction is riddled with alternate realities and relationships, some more believable than others.
Fans with a lot of creativity might change up the love stories in the Harry Potter franchise, but have they thought about who is really boyfriend material? Here are five characters from the series who would not disappoint as boyfriends, and five who are better left alone.
10 Best: Dumbledore
Dumbledore's love life has been a hot topic. Whoever he loves, there is no question that he would be an awesome boyfriend. He is caring, compassionate, and thoughtful by nature and stands up for love's power again and again.
A man with this much passion and love in his heart needs a mate. Dumbledore would cherish his love interest, and the relationship would give the old man a nice distraction from the forces of evil.
9 Worst: Tom Riddle
Speaking of evil, Tom Riddle would be the absolute worst boyfriend. The kid has issues that no steamy romance could patch up. The Harry Potter saga reveals that Tom only has one true love: Achieving his own immortality and omnipotence.
As Voldemort, Tom reveals that there is no going back for the character. All hope for this soul is lost, so fans can't even fathom him as a worthy boyfriend.
8 Best: Hagrid
Hagrid might not be the obvious choice for best boyfriend ever, but he is as kind as Dumbledore. Hagrid is always looking for ways to help and protect others.
Although he has his trusty Fang at his side, Hagrid can seem lonely, which is a shame since he thrives on communicating with others. The hairy keeper of keys, grounds, and games should start by signing up for a wizarding world game show. Once he meets a catch, the rest will be history.
7 Worst: Snape
Everything is not what it seems with Severus Snape. His purpose in the story is deep, and his love for Lily Potter motivates him to fight for Harry's life. Is this enough to make Snape a good boyfriend? No.
Snape's windswept 'do and mysterious mannerisms are a total turn-off combined with his ever-brooding facial expression. He knows what love is, but he would need some work before starting a relationship.
6 Best: Sirius Black
With his devastating good looks and commitment to justice, who wouldn't want Sirius Black for a boyfriend? He's a sharp dresser with a tall, dark, and handsome vibe.
Sirius fights for what is right, even to death. But before his demise, Sirius was a sweetheart! He would carry on intellectual conversations and ask deeper questions. He probably has pretty good taste in restaurants, too (although he was living off rats for a while).
5 Worst: Draco Malfoy
Draco Malfoy is a sad, misunderstood dude. He clearly is conflicted about where to stand in the battle between good and evil. His family problems are severe, he doesn't have real friendships, and he runs from his feelings by hurting others.
Malfoy would be a nightmarish boyfriend for anyone, especially during his time in Hogwarts. However, he does change quite a bit later on, even if very little is seen of his post-Hogwarts life.
4 Best: Professor Slughorn
Professor Slughorn goes through a lot, and he tries to not remember it. He definitely needs to get some professional help to process everything, but a romantic companion could also be helpful.
Even with his troubled past, Slughorn has some glorious moments of embracing the present and celebrating life. He loves a good dessert and knows how to party. With his wisdom, vulnerability, and sense of fun, Professor Slughorn is a great boyfriend choice.
3 Worst: Ron Weasley
Ron Weasley has had plenty of chances to be the ideal boyfriend, but he's just not it. He and Hermoine might be cute together, but Ron doesn't make it easy for her. He is too busy comparing himself with Harry to notice what's right in front of him.
The jealousy and moodiness would grow tiresome from day one, so no need to pursue Ron Weasley as a potential romantic interest.
2 Best: Cedric Diggory
Cedric is mostly here for his looks. He tragically dies in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but the fierce athlete makes the ladies at Hogwarts swoon. He has just the right blend of charm and intensity to make it as a boyfriend.
As long as he opens up and isn't afraid to share who he is, Cedric could be the one for somebody, just like he was for Cho Chang.
1 Worst: Harry Potter
Harry Potter might be the hero of his story, but he is no good in the boyfriend department. While it is nice that he eventually found love, he had a ton of growing up to do first.
How could fans forget his mad-at-the-world teenage years, his tortured demeanor and unwillingness to listen to others? Even on Harry's best day, he can still be challenging to get along with.
