Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Anniversary Brings Back Past Seasonal Events

0

Monster Hunter World players will get the chance to relive the game’s previous seasonal events to celebrate Iceborne’s first anniversary, whether they own the expansion or not. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne followed up the massively popular base game last year with another successful expedition into a snowy new environment.

The Monster Hunter series has been around for a long time, and it’s one of Capcom’s most popular series in Japan. The series never had quite the same success in the United States until Monster Hunter World came along. Thanks to a highly streamlined experience compared to previous entries in the series and a big marketing push, Monster Hunter World brought the series to a whole new audience and quickly became Capcom’s best selling game ever. Released the next year, the Iceborne expansion sold far fewer copies than the base game, but still enough to be the second highest selling game in the franchise.

One of Monster Hunter World’s most exciting features is its frequent limited-time events, which bring exclusive quests and rewards, crossovers with other franchises, and seasonal holidays to the game’s world. To celebrate the first anniversary of Iceborne’s release, Capcom says it’s bringing back seasonal events that were held throughout its first year for players to enjoy again. Each of the holidays has two variants - one for the base game’s hub and one for Iceborne’s. The fun starts on August 20th, with the Winter Star Fest and Holiday Joy Fest. That runs until September 3rd, when Appreciation Fest and Grand Appreciation Fest take over. When that ends on September 17th, it will switch to Spring Blossom Fest and Full Bloom Fest. Capcom says that “almost all previous event quests” will be available again while the holidays are being replayed.

That’s a lot of quests - and a lot of rewards - even for an experienced hunter. Monster Hunter World has plenty of seasonal events tied to the game’s lore, but it’s not afraid to get weird for some of its event quests. Previous events have brought crossovers with games as disparate as The Witcher, Devil May Cry, and Mega Man, complete with unique weapons and armor to match.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne already has an intimidating amount of content, and its seasonal events just keep piling it on. Anyone coming into the game for the first time during its anniversary extravaganza may find too much going on to even comprehend, but for returning players who want to make up for missed holidays or newbies who just want to dive into the deep end, August and September will make for some good hunting.
