Coronavirus news live: UK death toll reaches 46,511 and nurse has leg amputated after ignoring pain while on virus frontline
A further 98 people have died with coronavirus in the UK, bringing the nation’s death toll – as of Friday afternoon – to 46,511.
The figure covers deaths in all settings, including hospitals, care homes, and the community. The actual cause of death may not be Covid-19 in all cases and people who died from the virus but didn’t test positive are not included in the total.
Meanwhile, nurse Sette Buenaventura, 26, ignored a muscle cramp for eight weeks because she ‘didn’t have time to worry about aches and pains’ while working 12-hour shifts at Salford Royal Hospital in Greater Manchester during the pandemic.
After working ‘flat-out’ on the frontline, she had to have her leg amputated when she discovered the pain was being caused by a cancerous tumour.
