Newmarket Races: Betting Preview, racecard and tips for Saturday’s Group 3 Betway Sweet Solera Stakes

ONLY the one race from Newmarket makes it on to ITV this Saturday, but it could be the best of the day.

Nine fillies are set to line up for the Group 3 Betway Sweet Solera. Our man Callum Jamieson takes a closer look.

Fly Miss Helen – Hannon/Levey (11-8) *Betway Prices

Trainers Richard Hannon and Mark Johnston have dominated this race in recent years and it’s no surprise to see two of theirs sitting pretty at the top of the betting.

Hannon’s Fly Miss Helen is the short-priced jolly after her impressive win at Newbury on debut. She was punted off the boards that day and travelled sweetly before picking off a John Gosden horse late on and going away.

It was smart on the eye and done in a decent time, if not spectacular. She should improve for this step up to seven and there is undoubtedly more to come. She didn’t look the speediest of horses though, and a slowly run race may just catch her out.

She took a small but of shaking up to get going and the race could not have gone any better for her, ideally placed throughout. She could well prove too good for these with a big step forwards, but I’d be willing to oppose her at short odds.

Dubai Fountain – Johnston/De Sousa (4-1)

She ran well at Sandown last time out considering she looked awkward on occasions, especially around the bend.

The straighter, galloping track should suit this scopier type. But I have a suspicion she may be seen at her best with some dig in the ground – and she won’t be getting that here.

She’s the likely pace angle in the race, and expect them to be queuing up behind. A lot will depend on how well SDS sets the fractions.

Danilova – Appleby/Buick (9-2)

Ridden confidently last time and got the job done. Hard to say what she beat at the time, but hit the front soon enough and there is clearly more to come.

She’s bred for further so expect Buick to be fairly positive on her again, likely tracking the Johnston horse.

She’s completely unexposed and it has to be an advantage that she’s already run at the track twice.

Setarhe – Varian/Ryan (11-2)

Was well-backed on her first two starts and slightly disappointing when coming third in the Sandown race that involved Dubai Fountain.

She came with a good looking run there but just didn’t see it out as well as the winner.

The engine is clearly there, she is just yet to put it all together in a more competitive race. She helps set the standard here but does need to take a step forward.

Spirit Of Bermuda – Haggas/Marquand (7-1)

She wasn’t fancied for her debut, but then again not many youngsters from her stable are.

She got off the mark at Goodwood in a decent looking race on paper. Whether it delivered is up for debate – a bunched finish and two market leaders not running as well as hoped.

But she finished well from the back and Tom Marquand was never too serious with her.

Any debut winner from this stable has to be respected and she was professional enough to handle that track first time up.

She should come on bundles and the Haggas team are flying of late. He’s not a trainer to rush his string into races like this, and if often pays to take note.

Best of the Rest

Coul Queen and Star Of Emaraaty look exposed enough and probably just shy of this level.

Mere Queen has only been fifth twice, but last time out was a big step up in a good race. She can’t be completely ruled out.

I expected better last time of Seattle Rock after a good run at Royal Ascot. She has a bit to prove now.

Betting Advice

Queen Of Bermuda (1pt win)

  • Should take a big step forwards from Goodwood success
  • Bred to be a smart youngster and Haggas team not one to throw up in class without a good reason
  • Top of market has obvious chances but jolly has to be taken on at short odds
