Finally! Everything the Warzone community has been waiting for since the bunkers opened has arrived! Season 5 of Call of Duty: Warzone has delivered on its promise to make significant changes to the way players experience the popular Battle Royal. Including new weapons and operators, Season 5 has come prepared to reignite the Call of Duty spark as Cold War hovers just over the horizon.
The major changes in Warzone have answered the prayers of players from all around the community. A plea to open the stadium has been echoing since the game’s launch back in March. Elevator campers have been soiling action-packed gameplay for just as long. Laying dormant, however, were the Verdansk train tracks. Speculations of a train coming to Warzone began to buzz as data minors and leakers did their thing. Now it’s here, and it’s beautiful. Chugging around the map is an indestructible War Train, and this guide will tell players everything they need to know about it.
The War Train is an eight-car freight train carrying covered tanks, loot chests, an ammo crate, and of course, players. The train can be spotted on the tac map so players will always know where it is. Fully zoomed out, the train looks like a caterpillar making its way around Verdansk. Zooming in will see it take better shape. The War Train will begin trudging along right before players are able to jump. As of now, it looks like the War Train will always spawn on the tracks behind Promenade East, right before the short underground tunnel next to Port. It will then make its way up past Hospital and under the mountain. From here, the train will head around the Airport and run parallel to the town east of the air traffic control tower. It will turn left once more and run alongside the boneyard before looping all the way back around Promenade. The train will complete one lap with about 1:30 left on the clock as the 2nd circle is closing. Depending on how the first and second circles look, players could feasibly ride the train for one whole lap (hopping off of course to grab their loadout). Speed-wise, the train is much slower than any vehicles, but cannot be caught up to on foot. Players will need to come at it at an angle if they plan on hopping on or dive on it from above. There a few spots around the map where players can fall safely onto the train. For example, as it comes out of the tunnel near the hospital, players can wait on the overhang. They could also jump off the street overpass near the airport, or dive down off a tall enough building.
Landing on the train after the initial jump is a high risk, high reward. Still in its infancy, and much like the new stadium, the train will be a hot-drop until its flare wears off (which may not be any time soon.) The train will, however, be loaded with legendary crates granting players fully upgraded weapons, kill-streaks, and plenty of cash. Some lucky players will even find keycards to open the bunkers OR secret rooms inside the stadium. There are ample options for cover as Red Dead Train Robbers battle it out for early control of the War Train.
An ideal strategy is to fight front to back. Let’s say, hypothetically, Player A is shooting towards the rear of the train at player B. Player A could hop off and allow some cars to pass before hopping back on and ideally flanking or coming up behind Player B. The train is moving so fast while on it, and players are ducking behind crates for cover, that unless lucky enough to see Player A hop of, Player B would be none the wiser. As there isn’t much room to move horizontally on the train, squads may want to separate and catch their enemies in the crossfire rather than all landing the same train car.
(As a fair warning to those who enjoy landing Hospital and Promenade, the addition of the War Train will make those spots even hotter as players second guess themselves.)
As mentioned before, the War Train is an indestructible monster. Vehicles will be ripped to shreds and so will players who unwisely wander onto the train tracks. (Although, anybody being run over by the train probably wasn’t going to walk away with a win anyway) While on the train, be careful of the spaces between train cars. Players can fall through and end up in the Gulag. A Helicopter can also be landed on the train, but it is ill-advised. It’s very difficult to land and will most likely end in an explosion and another trip to the Gulag.
One train car, close to the front, is open and makes for a great hiding spot if evading a bounty or running down the clock on a most wanted. It feels like a player's operator has gotten fed up with their life in Verdansk, and has decided to hop on the next train out of town. (Unfortunately, this train just keeps looping around town.) The open train car must be entered from the side making it easier to defend. Just be careful of someone dropping down from above and quickly climbing up.
It is also worth mentioning that the train does NOT diverge from its course. Around the map, players will notice places where the tracks could hypothetically switch and keep the War Train in zone. However, as the gas closes, the train continues on its course. Could a future update give use to these alternative routs? We’ll see. As of now, The War Train has delivered as an exciting new edition to Call of Duty: Warzone. It will certainly make for entertaining streams and video clips. The Community has seen streamers win games in unique ways such as ‘no kills’ and ‘no shots fired’. Unfortunately, the War-Train won’t last forever in-zone so a ‘Train Robber Run’ is out of the cards.
