GI Joe Spinoff Movie Snake Eyes Is Insane, Says Star
Henry Golding has seen a cut of Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins and says that it is insane. Paramount is in the process of resetting the G.I. Joe franchise on the big screen after two lackluster outings a few years ago. Multiple films were developed to try and continue or relaunch the series, and the first one to get the green light was Snake Eyes. The origin movie for G.I. Joe's silent soldier will see Golding play the lead role.
So far, Paramount has managed to fly somewhat under the radar with its approach for Snake Eyes, as general audiences have yet to become too excited about what the movie could hold. The studio assembled a great cast of rising stars and martial arts experts - including The Raid's Iko Uwais - to deliver a different kind of G.I. Joe movie. But, there has not been any promotion for the film to this point. This is one of the reasons why the fever for it has yet to kick in. If Golding can be trusted, though, it sounds like Snakes Eyes is one to be excited for.
The star of Snake Eyes revealed on Twitter that he has seen a cut of the movie and has begun hyping the insanity that awaits viewers. Golding didn't get too specific about what makes Snake Eyes so special in his mind, but he made a point to emphasize it isn't the same type of "cookie cutter" blockbuster movie that Hollywood continues to make. Read his full reaction below:
The excitement that Golding has for Snake Eyes is clear and could be an encouraging sign of how the movie turned out. While he is the star of the film and is inclined to say good things about it, Golding likely wasn't required to share his thoughts on the movie if he didn't believe what he's saying. Unfortunately for fans, the star didn't provide any information on when even a glimpse of Snake Eyes will be released. Paramount hasn't released any footage from the film and it was recently reported that the movie could be delayed until 2021.
If Golding's thoughts on Snake Eyes are an accurate reflection of the film, all we can do now is speculate about what makes it so different. Is Snake Eyes so action-heavy that it puts other blockbusters to shame, or has the movie taken a grounded, character-focused approach to differentiate itself from what came before? The latter could be closer to the truth, as Golding said the movie is the opposite of superhero movies. It's even possible that one of the reasons Snake Eyes stands out is it could be seeking an R-rating, though no such plan has been officially announced for the film. Now that Golding is starting the hype train for Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, hopefully it won't be long before the first trailer is released.
