Police: Woman killed by stray bullet while in her south Columbus apartment
COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Police say a woman was killed by a stray bullet while she was in her Parsons Avenue apartment.
According to the Columbus Division of Police, at about 4:46 a.m., Saturday, officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 1800 block of Parsons Avenue on the report of a person shot.
When officers arrived on scene, they found Ellen J. Lakey, 64, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Police say moments prior to Lakey being found, officers were dispatched to the same area on several ShotSpotter alerts for multiple gunshots being fired.
Lakey was taken to Grant Medical Center where she later died from her injuries.
Police say Lakey was struck by a stray bullet while she was inside her apartment.
