President Trump has promised he will use his executive powers if necessary to expedite COVID relief to Americans. On Friday, the president announced he will act unilaterally to reinstate enhanced unemployment benefits, defer student loan payments and reinstate a federal moratorium on evictions.

This comes amid stalled talks between the White House and top Democrats over the next relief package.

“My administration continues to work in good faith to reach an agreement with Democrats in Congress that will extend unemployment benefits, provide protections against evictions. A terrible thing happened with evictions. It’s not fair, it wasn’t their fault. …What we’re talking about is deferring the payroll tax for a period of months till the end of the year, and I can extend it at a certain period. Hopefully, I will be here to do the job.” – Donald Trump, 45th President of the United States

The president previously suggested he could take action as soon as this weekend. According to the latest reports, he will sign several executive orders from Bedminister, New Jersey on Saturday, including an unemployment insurance measure.
