Drag Race: RuPaul's Appearance on Muppets Now Was Hilarious
“RuPaul’s segment on Muppets Now! is such a dang delight,” sums up the RuPaul’s Drag Race star’s Disney+ appearance in a tweet. The new show with everyone’s favorite Kermit, Fozzie, and Piggy featured a bunch of celebrity guests that included RuPaul Charles.
Muppets Now! is The Muppets Studio's first “unscripted” series and first original series for Disney+. The primary season of the improv comedy-based show released on the streaming service on July 31 and has Kermit the Frog and company re-introduce themselves to fans in a modern setting. Miss Piggy stars as a beauty vlogger doling out style advice via the segment “Lifesty-le with Miss Piggy” while Pepe the King Prawn is the host of “Pepe’s Unbelievable Gameshow.” The first episode out of six called “Due Date” had Kermit teach the audience about “photobomby” and later interview RuPaul’s Drag Race’s RuPaul Charles in “Mup, Close and Personal.” Fans are loving RuPaul’s segment which disclosed his usually reserved playful side when surrounded by the Muppets.
What proved to be the most fun part of Muppets Now! Had Kermit the Frog speak to the Drag Race legend and “fellow professional multitasker” RuPaul at a candlelit table for two. Kermit echoes the feelings of viewers when he says that the muppets have been talking about the show’s special guest “all week.” Kermit looks exhilarated on seeing RuPaul who chuckles his way all through the interview. “I’m in such awe of you,” he tells the celebrity drag queen. “You’re a host, an actor, a model, a singer, an author, and so much more,” exclaims the famous Frog in awe. RuPaul’s answer to Kermit’s question about what advice would he gives to his seven-year-old self is, “You are on the right track, baby!” The table for two soon gets a lot busier with Gonzo and Howard joining in. Howard, completely smitten by RuPaul hilariously ends up answering all the questions on his behalf. But the funniest bit is when Miss Piggy joins her fluffy friends and asks RuPaul if “Diva” is a positive term. “It’s a term of endearment,” he says before complimenting Piggy with “ Madam, you are the most important female figure in the entertainment industry.”
Miss Piggy and RuPaul make a plan to grab lunch mid-interview as they bond over their love for sass and style but visibly jealous Kermit drives the fashionista away. “Breathe, laugh, repeat,” tells the host of RuPaul’s Drag Race to the Frog but the mantra doesn’t last long cause the interview is yet again interrupted by Fozzie. Fozzie gathers a crowd of Muppets to collectively ask RuPaul their questions leaving Kermit with no option but to end the segment.
This isn’t the first time that the creator of RuPaul’s Drag Race has rubbed shoulders with The Muppets. A 2016 episode of The Muppets had RuPaul getting emotional about getting to work with the puppets and back then he had confessed how his favorite Muppet “for so many reasons” was Kermit. “His innate kindness is what drives the entire Muppet storyline,” the Emmy award winner had said back then. Getting interviewed by Kermit the Frog must’ve been a great opportunity for RuPaul to connect with his favorite Muppet but his fans seemed to have enjoyed his chemistry with Miss Piggy even more. There are quite a few viewers demanding Miss Piggy to be a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race while some want an entire season of Muppets Now! with just her and RuPaul talking about “anything and everything.” Shantay, you sty... oops, stay!
