All 8 DCEU Endings Ranked | ScreenRant
A great movie does not always guarantee a good ending, similarly, a great ending does not always make up for a terrible movie. With Warner Brothers having now released eight movies surrounding their DC properties, and more on the way, fans can reminisce over their spectacular fight sequences in the third acts.
Not every movie is supposed to end on a cliffhanger, such as Wonder Woman, but it's always a way of leaving fans wanting more, for example, the end of Shazam that left stones unturned for the future. Let's take a look at the ending of DC's eight movies so far.
8 Suicide Squad
Although Suicide Squad screamed "fun" from many angles, the movie was a bit of a mess, and the third act was no exception with Enchantress's strange evil smoke dancing ritual and more questionable CGI. However, a touching moment between Deadshot and his daughter and a final appearance by the Joker breaking Harley Quinn out of jail were two redeeming qualities about the ending.
After what he did with Guardians of The Galaxy, James Gunn's involvement in the Suicide Squad sequel has fans very excited but audiences will have to wait a little while longer to see if it can redeem the franchise.
7 Aquaman
Not only was Arthur Curry's father reunited with his mother after many years, but Jason Momoa's Aquaman also speeds through the water dawning his comic accurate gold and green armor and emerges as the film cuts to black in an epic final shot to the movie.
However, the almost blinding visuals of the movie made the CGI stand out slightly more, especially during the scene where Orm is reunited with his mother.
6 Birds Of Prey
DC brings together Harley Quinn, Huntress, and a few others in Birds of Prey: and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. Aside from the interesting choice of title, the movie had a lot of great individual elements that almost clashed together at the end due to the birds of prey having to fight for survival.
The final action sequence, while showing the odd nit-picking slip up, was very enjoyable to watch and it seemed the five were a set team. But Harley then reminds fans who she is, not a big team player, and steals a car to start as a gun for hire, staying true to the core character, ready for a potential sequel.
5 Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice
The third act of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, DC's most divisive movie, was fairly bittersweet. Fans got a sneak peek at the beginning of the Justice League but Superman sacrificing himself when he was obviously going to return seems fairly pointless at first, but it's all about 'how' he comes back that was getting fans thinking.
Lex teasing Steppenwolf, the villain in Justice League was exciting for many die-hard fans, but the main issue with the ending to this movie was, as the dirt rises off of Superman's coffin, this tells fans that he isn't dead, yet he began Justice League still dead and isn't revived until the second act, thus rendering the amazing and exciting ending to this movie, sadly, pointless.
4 Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman was very much a retelling of Diana's past, giving fans a bit more detail into her past ready for her appearance in Justice League. In the final moments, fans can see the world celebrating after the war and Diana looking at a photo of Steve Trevor before the film fades back to Diana in modern-day contacting Bruce Wayne.
Even though there was no dramatic cliffhanger ready for a sequel to pick up from, that wasn't the movie's purpose. Fans are excited to see what happens in Wonder Woman: 1984.
3 Justice League
After our heroes manage to successfully defeat Steppenwolf and his army, a shot of the full Justice League standing over their victory gave fans a shot they have never seen on the big screen before. Although some of the visual effects were questionable during the final battle, fans also got a tease to the Hall of Justice where Bruce Wayne imagines a round table with six chairs in the middle.
It will be interesting to see how the ending of the Snyder Cut differs from that of the theatrical version of the Justice League, but only time will tell.
2 Shazam
In the third act of Shazam, fans were gifted with the appearance of the Shazam family after Billy and his friends all gained the abilities of the comic heroes in time to defeat Dr. Sivana. The nature of the movie was very light-hearted and the third act kept up the lighter tone with many of the jokes still landing.
In the final moments the movie also successfully teases Black Adam and ends with a cameo by Superman, but sadly not Henry Cavill in the suit. A very satisfying ending to a very satisfying movie.
1 Man of Steel
After killing Zod and screaming out in anger that he has had to kill one of his own, Clark crashes a piece of military technology that is trying to track where Clark's fortress is. Clark joins Lois Lane at the daily planet who jokingly welcomes Clark to "The Planet".
Cavill's performance during the third act is just one example of how he is a spectacular Superman. Fans will know the classic tale of Clark Kent joining the daily planet to keep an ear to the ground but seeing it happen with Cavill's Superman was a great ending to arguably DC's best comic book movie in the DCEU.
