Italian cruise ships are set to resume operation on August 15th. The Italian prime minister made the announcement Friday in an attempt to reboot Italy’s tourism industry.
The government has approved the move, despite reports of positive coronavirus infections among cruise passengers in other parts of Europe.
Many Italian businesses currently face bankruptcy. With limited tourism, there’s hope that cruise ships will help.
The government also announced trade fairs may resume.
“We do not want any new restrictions. On the contrary, we have decided to restart cruise ships from August 15th. We have decided to restart some economic activities, such as trade fairs, with small events that can start immediately after publication of the decree. Then large fairs from September 1st.” – Giuseppe Conte, Prime Minister of Italy
Germany, France and Taiwan have also granted permission for ocean liners to begin cruising.
