Learn to remove stain marks from greasy BBQ days with our cleaning expert’s tips
GRILLIANT news! Hot weather means it is time to break out the barbie.
But BBQs can be messy affairs, with spills and stains that get harder to shift as they dry. I spoke to the experts at cleaning firm Dr Beckmann for advice.
Experts at cleaning firm Dr Beckmann give you top tips on how to remove stains from BBQs which can turn into messy affairs[/caption]Not so saucy: The most common BBQ stain is ketchup — and must be treated as soon as possible.
Dr Beckmann says: “Clear any excess from the area, being sure not to spread the mark. Gently rub in washing-up liquid before rinsing with cold water.”
Wine and dine: Who doesn’t like a chilled glass of white while they grill?
Dr Beckmann’s experts say: “If you have a spillage, make sure you blot the alcohol with a cloth until the liquid is absorbed, then sponge with cold water.”
My tip: You can then treat the stain with a stain remover.
Dr Beckmann’s Stain Devils Fruit & Drink, £2 at Wilko, is currently part of a three-for-two deal.
Meat feat: Greasy red meat stains are a nightmare to remove.
Blot repeatedly to absorb as much oil as possible. Treat the stain with a stain remover for ten to 15 minutes then wash.
Try out Aldi’s Almat Oxi-Stain Remover White to remove some of the worst greasy marks[/caption]My tip: I always get the worst marks on me when wearing white.
Aldi’s Almat Oxi-Stain Remover White, £1.89 online, is far cheaper than the big brands.
Grassy affair: A few tipples can lead to a few topples and grass stains are a right pain to get out.
The experts say: “Always clear any excess grass or dirt away from the area, taking care to avoid worsening any marks. It’s also worth pre-soaking the area with a mixture of one-part spirit vinegar to two parts warm water for around 30 minutes.”
Choc horror: After the BBQ comes pudding.
Chocolate is a favourite that easily gets on your clothes, the carpet or the sofa. But don’t panic — it can be scrubbed right out.
Dr Beckmann says: “Scrape excess chocolate off the stain, then blot with a damp cloth. Apply a stain remover and scrub repeatedly.”
