DC Universe Title Dropped From Titans & Other Shows | Screen Rant

0

The DC Universe title has been dropped from Titans and the animated Harley Quinn series on social media. Both shows premiered on the streaming service, which has also been home to StargirlDoom Patrol, and the now-cancelled Swamp Thing. However, DC Universe's future is currently unknown thanks to HBO Max entering the streaming field earlier this year. Both platforms are owned by WarnerMedia, leading some to speculate DC Universe could be on its way out, allowing the company to focus on its new service.

There have been concrete signs of this as well. Stargirl, which was originally a DC Universe show, will air exclusively on The CW during season 2. This isn't too much of a surprise on its own, since the series was already airing on The CW the day after each episode's release. However, adding to things, Doom Patrol season 2 streamed on HBO Max as well as DC Universe. Finally, just last week, Harley Quinn was made available on HBO Max, connecting another DC Universe show to the new streaming service. As of now, Titans, which has been renewed for season 3, is the only live-action series left that streams exclusively on DC Universe, at least domestically.

Now, there could be a change ahead, as both Titans and Harley Quinn have dropped the "DC Universe" part of their titles on social media. Instead, the shows have been given the "DC's" preface. Stargirl's social media title begins this way as well, though it's unclear if it had "DC Universe" as part of its title to begin with. It's important to note this doesn't indicate the definitive end of the DC Universe streaming service. It could simply be a move on DC's part to streamline its shows' titles, regardless of where they air. However, it is an interesting decision considering the ongoing discussion about WarnerMedia's streaming services. Many feel it would make more sense to sunset the DC streamer in order to focus energy and content on the newer HBO Max. It's also worth noting DC Universe ended its yearly subscription option last month, further suggesting the platform is on its way out.

The DC TV shows planned for HBO Max, including Greg Berlanti's Green Lantern, are also an important factor. The new shows could create unnecessary competition for Titans and Harley Quinn especially. For this reason, it may be a good idea to move them over to HBO Max before the new DC shows arrive. This move would also increase subscribers for HBO Max, as it would give the streamer more original content in one place. Though the future of DC Universe is still up in the air, news of these title changes on social media could spell trouble for the streaming platform.
