LFC Women Prepare For Pre-Season

Unfortunately, the Reds will play in the Championship this season.

Women’s football in England was put on hold back in May due to coronavirus concerns. This was honestly almost a blessing for Liverpool fans, who had followed their team through an abysmal run of games.

Liverpool have since been relegated from the Women’s Super League, the top tier in English women’s football, down to the Championship. This has lead to criticism at how the club manager their women’s side, since relegation came in the same season that the men’s side brought home their first title win in 30 years.

Football starts up again on Sunday with the Reds playing their first of five pre-season matches, this one against Blackburn Rovers Ladies.

Liverpool manager Vicky Jepson said of the upcoming lineup of games, “We’ve got a good balance of challenges lined up to prepare us for the campaign ahead. There are teams who will sit in against us and others who will come at us.

“I really wanted to play Coventry in an away game because they have the 3G pitch and there are five teams in the Championship who play on 3G, which we’ll face in our away games.”

The battle to return to the Super League begins soon, and it’s something that all Reds fans should care about. The dismissive way that our billionaire owners have treated the women’s side is shameful and a permanent dark mark on the club’s reputation.
