26 dead in major landslide as India's Kerala state battles heavy rain

A landslide in the south Indian state of Kerala has killed at least 26 people.

Video shows rescue operations taking place on Saturday in Pettimudi, near Munnar in Idukki district, a mountainous region in Kerala. Nine bodies were recovered on Saturday afternoon after 17 bodies were recovered on Friday.

Rescue operations have been hampered by heavy rain. Authorities said the wet weather was likely to continue in the near future in the area.

On Friday an Air India Express plane with 190 people on board crashed at Kerala's Calicut airport, killing at least 18 people, after it overshot the runway in rainy conditions as it attempted to land.
