Rams DT A’Shawn Robinson sidelined with ‘non-football’ injury

0

New Rams defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson will miss at least part of training camp with an injury.

The team said it placed Robinson on the “active/non-football injury” list Monday with an injury sustained before camp began Monday, Aug. 3.

The injury wasn’t described. Coach Sean McVay is expected to address the matter Sunday in his next scheduled video-stream chat with reporters.

Robinson, 25, signed with the Rams in March after four years with the Detroit Lions, and has been expected to start on the defensive line with Aaron Donald and Michael Brockers. Robinson’s two-year, $17 million contract gives him the fifth-highest average salary on the Rams.

One of the NFL’s several injury lists, the active/NFI designation is for players who can’t participate in practice or games because they were hurt outside NFL activities. A player like Robinson is eligible to return when he’s healthy.

It’s less serious than the “reserve/NFI” list. A player on that list must miss a portion of the regular season.

For context: The Indianapolis Colts recently put wide receiver T.Y. Hilton on the active/NFI list with what is reported to be a hamstring injury sustained working out at home.

The league’s list of lists was expanded this year to include “reserve/COVID-19,” for players who tested positive for the coronavirus or have been quarantined after contact with an infected person.

The Rams put two players, outside linebacker Terrell Lewis and defensive tackle Michael Hoecht, on that list July 31. Hoecht was activated Aug. 2.

Robinson’s case is not related to COVID-19, the Rams said.
