Arson suspect arrested following East Bay fire
WALNUT CREEK — A fire that burned up some of a hillside and threatened a building Friday is suspected to have been set intentionally, and police said they have arrested a homeless man.
Kyle Shields, 37, is suspected of arson in the fire to which officers were called around 8:15 p.m., police said. The fire threatened a building on Tice Valley Boulevard near Rolling Hills Drive, and a witness described a person running from the fire moments after it started, police said.
Nobody was inside the building, police said.
Officers found Shields hiding behind a bus stop and arrested him there. He was being held in the Martinez Detention Facility on Saturday in lieu of $75,000 bail.
