Tottenham Hotspur have fallen to a shocking 28th place in FiveThirtyEight’s latest rankings of the best teams in world football.
The analytics-based platform uses a complex formula to deduce the best teams in the world at any given time, based on stats from the team’s results in various competitions.
Spurs finished outside the Premier League top four this season for the first time in five years and subsequently failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
That is a considerable drop in fortunes for a side that was one step away from being crowned European champions a little over a year ago and that drop is reflected in FiveThirtyEight’s projections.
