Hilariously Bizarre Jurassic Park Trailer Turns Every Dinosaur Into Pee-wee Herman
In a new and hysterical parody trailer, comedy legend Pee-wee Herman replaces all of the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. The trailer comes as Paul Reubens, the comedian who famously played Pee-wee, has recently announced that he plans to take on the role of the lovable weirdo once again. Reubens originally developed Pee-wee as a stage act, but the character eventually gained enough popularity that a movie, Pee-wee's Big Adventure, was released in 1985, with the usual adult humor toned down to make it marketable to children. The success of the movie, in turn, led to the creation of the Emmy-award winning children's TV series, Pee-wee's Playhouse, which ran on CBS from 1986 to 1991.
Even though a scandal in an adult movie theater in 1991 seemed to mark the end of his career, Reubens eventually returned to the role of Pee-wee in 2016, where he starred in the Netflix film Pee-wee's Big Holiday. Written by Reubens and produced by Judd Apatow, the film was mostly positively received among critics, who praised its wacky humor as well as the unexpected subtextual romance between Pee-wee and actor Joe Manganiello. Reubens currently has plans to take on the role once again, though this time with a more adult approach.
If the new Jurassic Park parody trailer by YouTuber Pixel Riot is any indication, the character still maintains relevancy even 30 years later. Titled Pee Wee Park: The Full Horror, the trailer features Pee-Wee edited in place of the dinosaurs, resulting in a barrage of surreal hilarity featuring everything from Pee-wee brutally murdering Wayne Knight to him chasing after Jeff Goldblum on his bike. Although a bit darker and more violent than most work involving Reubens's character, the weird and irreverent nature of the trailer is undoubtedly in the spirit of Pee-wee.
Funny enough, Reubens himself has talked about taking the character in a darker direction with his next film. This movie, called Pee-wee Herman Story, would feature Pee-wee becoming a breakout yodeling star, only to develop a drug addiction when he moves to Hollywood. Even though Netflix dismissed the movie when Reubens presented it to them, the film has gained the attention of directors Benny and Josh Safdie, whose most recent work includes the critically-acclaimed Uncut Gems.
The Safdie brothers are known for their dark character studies, with their more deconstructive take on Adam Sandler's usual manchild-type character in Uncut Gems being the most recent example. Considering that Reubens's planned film seems to be a dark satire of the typical wacky Pee-wee movie, the Safdie brothers seem a natural choice. Moreover, if the trailer above is any indication, it is that Reubens's famous goofball is still just as funny when a darker sense of humor is involved. Of course, if the film turns out to be anything like Uncut Gems, then for once, there may be few laughs to be had in a Pee-wee Herman story.
