Fall Guys Gets Another Valve Crossover Costume On Steam
Fall Guys is launching yet another crossover with Valve, and this time, they're headed to 2Fort. Launching with a series of successful betas last month, Fall Guys has become one of the most successful launches of 2020. A party game where bean men run through rainbow obstacle courses and avoid falling into slime or bouncing off the walls, Devolver Digital and Mediatonic's joint venture has surpassed even the loftiest of expectations. The game has sold over 2 million copies on Steam and is available for free on PlayStation 4 this month thanks to PlayStation Plus. Whether gamers are streaming on Twitch or just chilling with friends, it is the game of the moment.
Because of that, a cavalcade of brands has vied for inclusion in the game via social media. From fellow games like Trover Saves The Universe to bigger brands like KFC and Walmart are all trying to take part in the phenomenon directly. However, it seems like Fall Guys has a pipeline of desirable skins already put in place for its launch period. Players who preordered the game on PC got a Gordon Freeman skin for their trouble, and last week's big store inclusion was a reference to Hotline Miami.
Today's new skin inclusion, first introduced officially on Twitter, references another Valve character. From original Steam megahit Team Fortress 2, players will soon be able to go for the crown while dressed as the Scout. Known for running faster than the rest of the Team Fortress mercenaries, The Scout is a natural fir for a game all about running and jumping with unmatched precision. Unfortunately, the Scout's duds don't come with his signature Scattergun or the ability to double jump, both of which would be a great help in many of the challenges present in a typical game of Fall Guys.
Of course, Fall Guys players who were paying attention already knew about The Scout's inclusion in the game. A big list of future skins leaked out last week, and The Scout was front and center in the legendary cosmetics lineup. The other crossovers, which will likely each cost 5 crowns each like The Scout, include characters from Devolver games like Enter The Gungeon, Gris, The Messenger, and Gato Roboto. There are also a few more Valve crossovers, with another Gordon Freeman costume coming alongside Peabody and Chell from the world of Portal.
These Fall Guys skins were all likely created before the game's massive success, and it's likely the range of crossovers will expand considerably as time goes on. It will be interesting to see if the game goes full Fortnite or sticks to Devolver's more down to earth approach. The publisher could even pull something similar to what Blizzard has done in the past and offer Fall Guys skin packs as incentives to explore their upcoming releases. The world has yet to see if Fall Guys' stubby legs can keep the crazy going in the long term, but its impressive debut means that it will have a considerable audience for a long time to come.
Fall Guys is available now on PlayStation 4 via PlayStation Plus and PC.
