Agents of SHIELD Cast Gets Emotional In Final Table Read Video
A new Agents of SHIELD video shows the cast's emotional final table read. This week, Marvel TV's inaugural project wrapped up after seven seasons on ABC. It marks the end of an era with Marvel's small screen endeavors, as Kevin Feige and his team begin focusing on producing content exclusively for Disney+. The streamer's upcoming shows will also have more of an integration with the MCU.
Debuting in 2013, Agents of SHIELD kicked off with the supposed death of Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) in Joss Whedon's The Avengers. In the show, he led his own set of highly-skilled agents through various missions. While the show technically exists in the same universe as the bigger MCU canon, its story further diverged from what Marvel Studios was doing on the big screen over the years. This may have disappointed those that wanted a stronger link between Agents of SHIELD and its movie counterparts. However, the ABC show did well with its own set of beloved actors who played their characters brilliantly over the last seven years.
In light of Agents of SHIELD's finale this week, Marvel Entertainment has released a video of the cast and crew's final table read for the show. All main actors were present during the gathering, and so were co-creators Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. As expected, almost everyone got emotional as they did a run-through of the show's final moments, but there are also some unexpected laughs from the cast. Watch the whole clip below:
Instead of simply showing how the table read panned out, Marvel Entertainment incorporated scenes from the finale corresponding to the scene the cast was reading. This makes the whole video much more nostalgic, as viewers can see the actors and other people behind the show sifting through what the writers came up for Agents of SHIELD's ending. The additional reaction from other actors while they listen to their co-stars deliver their lines reveals that even the people involved in the project had the same reactions to audiences watching the finale at homes. Seeing how the script was executed on the screen also makes more for a great touch.
While the MCU movies tended to neglect Agents of SHIELD (and other previous Marvel TV endeavors), it's important to acknowledge what the show was able to accomplish on the small screen. The finale may not have been Avengers: Endgame, but it was still able to stick the landing, giving every single character a satisfying sendoff. It's disappointing there's no word yet if any of the characters from the show will factor into future MCU films. If viewers want to be optimistic, star Chloe Bennet recently said she doesn't think she's done playing Quake. However, only time will tell if that comes to fruition.
